Description:The Adams County Sheriff's Office is seeking a candidate for the position of DNA Analyst/Criminal Investigator. This is a non-certified position. Candidates who wish to be considered for the DNA Analyst position are required to possess the following minimum requirements:
-Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminalistics, chemistry, biology, molecular biology or a field related to the work assignment
-PLUS two years of DNA experience at the journeyman level using techniques specifically followed in forensic laboratories


COMPONENTS OF THE SELECTION PROCESS INCLUDE:
*SCREENING OF APPLICATIONS
An APPLICATION, RESUME AND COVER LETTER are required and will be screened based on the candidate’s qualifications and suitability for the position.
*ORAL BOARD INTERVIEW
A panel will question candidates on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience for the position. Candidates who receive a passing score will be processed in ranking order.
*BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION
An integrity interview and thorough background investigation will be conducted on successful candidates by the Adams County Sheriff's Office Background Detective.
*POLYGRAPH, PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL EXAM
Top candidates successfully passing the background investigation may be scheduled for a polygraph, physical and psychological review.
*FINAL INTERVIEW
A final interview will be conducted by the Captain of the Detective Division with the top qualifying candidate.

Successful incumbent will be an employee of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office/Detective Division and assigned to work in the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s Forensic Laboratory

Duties:•Collect, preserve, analyze and interpret physical evidence in criminal cases related to DNA analysis
•Provide technical and investigative assistance as needed
•Confirm and assess the performance of peers and validation of new techniques and instrumentation use
•Prepare investigative and laboratory reports detailing the findings of examinations of evidence
•Instruct law enforcement personnel in proper techniques and procedures of recognition, collection and preservation of physical evidence
•Render expert opinions in reference to the analysis of DNA examinations and testify to those expert opinions in the appropriate court of law
•Regularly communicate with investigators and supervisors on the status, progress and conclusions in reference to evidence submitted for examination
•Evaluate new instrumental techniques and incorporate these into job function
Qualifications:•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminalistics, chemistry, biology, molecular biology or a field related to work assignment
•PLUS two years of DNA experience at the journeyman level using techniques specifically followed in forensic laboratories
•Must be able to skillfully operate, maintain and calibrate scientific equipment such as thermo cycler, DNA sequencers, robotic analyzers, graphic cameras, video cameras, stand alone and integrated computers
•Must possess knowledge in the area of CODIS database analysis and instrumentation use
•Understand accepted practices of and be able to demonstrate proper crime scene evidence collection
•Able to successfully complete five month validation process administered by CBI’s ASCLD accredited lab
